When the curtains drew back at The Square station, they revealed an oval-shaped plaza, bathed in bright sunshine. They were no longer underground. There were lines of poplar trees dotted along the pathways and the space was filled with hundreds of people. Many were relaxing on grassed areas or seated around egg-shaped pools, dipping their toes in the water. There were fountains glistening in the sunshine, dancing rhythmically and casting rainbows through the spray.
“It looks lovely,” said Isla, wishing they could stop for a look round. “And very clean!”
“Not very square though, is it?” said Jack, stating the obvious.
